Birthday Message For Jade

Our Dearest Jade ,

God's gift of a precious jewel, Jade, to the Ooi family is now a year old. Happy Birthday with warm loving hugs and kisses from us ! You are not only our first grandchild but also the very first 'lady" or righteously should I say the first little rosebud that makes its first appearance to the family of young vibrant members. A gracious welcome gift from the almighty GOD. May the almighty one be with you as you move from milestone to milestone of your life.

Remember what the Lord once said to the man when he questioned him about seeing only one set of footprints during the very lowest and saddest times in his life.

"During your times of trials and sufferings, when you see only one footprint, it was then that I carried you? ”

By the time you are able to read and digest the contents of this in a more matured perspective, we, the grandparents may have withered or gone : hopefully somewhere up there looking down with a wide smile and say , "That's our Jade , our pride !. Our little rose bud has blossomed.

“One flower can make a dream”

You are very fortunate , Jade , to have such caring and loving parents who are always there for you . Each time I take you for walks in your strollers, I watch with great envy at you. How you sit with ease, legs up sometimes almost touching your forehead. You lucky girl! We didn't have that little luxury that you are enjoying ! We never got to sit in any pram suffice to say such comfortable strollers that you are having now and with grandpa pushing you around. Our grandparents were gone long before we were born and our parents were not around for us. The best we ever got was that little cane stool inverted to put our bottoms in when our parents were too busy for us.

Like you, your dad used to enjoy his rides too but in a much smaller pram with small tiny wheels and plastic sheets as seat . It wobbled with each movement but still he enjoyed every moment of it. Just like you, he sat with his legs crossed : an envious sight, no doubt , to all the other toddlers living around the area. Why? He has his dad pushing him around, with him enjoying an-armchair ride around the private ground of the Health Clinic up on top of the hillock that overlooked Tanjong Tuallang. He's a darling to the staff of the clinic, not so because he's the son of the staff nurse there but solely because he was the 'cutie pie'. Each time I push you around fond memories of the past slowly unfold.

Your dad has always been very obedient and independent. Daddy never gave us any problem or put us into embarrassing situations. He knew our financial standing and never asked what we couldn't afford to give. At a young age of ten, your daddy already showed great interest in computing. His first computer was a second-hand one, costing just Rm100 and from then onwards his interest and skill in IT developed immensely. Your dad is a self-made man in many respects. He only had his basic computer studies when we later bought him a new PC and that too was a free course that came with the package of purchase. Further to this it was his keen interest that motivated him to reach for higher levels in all the fields that he set his heart on. He also excelled in many extra-curricular activities. He is a King Scout ( Pengakap Raja ) a scuba-diving licence holder, a talented photographer, a star music student of Paul Seow , and also a skilful handyman too. Professionally he is an accountant and an SAP consultant. On the domestic side, daddy is a good cook especially on dishing out western cuisines. He’s always so caring to everyone, the young and the elderly.

“ The difference between ordinary and extraordinary is that little extra”

Today, as Ah Ma and I sit back we cannot but reminisce all the wonderful days that we had had with your daddy, Uncle Ti and Uncle Chien when they were little boys. Though we were not that rich, we had lived a happy life together. They never gave us problems. Wherever we went we were always together in one family. We didn’t have a 4WD but all the same no one grumbled as everyone was comfortable and happy. There was and there is still unity among members of the family. They have a good balance of give and take. Each of them may his own differences but they will never let these differences stand in the way of a united and harmonious family.

“The heart of family life lies in the behaviour of individual members toward one another "

We also had our share of hard work . Granny and I worked almost round the clock to earn the extra to support your dad and the other two uncles through their studies. We never looked back. We have high esteem for all our three children. I was giving tuitions , hopping from house to house and tuition centres, right after school hours while granny went around private hospitals and factory clinics straight from Ipoh Hospital. Today as we look back we feel very satisfied and proud that our hard work has paid handsome dividends , seeing your dad and your two uncles reaching almost the pinnacle of their career complementary to the sacrifice that we had invested.

“Success is a journey , not a destination “

Although I don’t know much about your mummy”s early childhood days but I endorse that you have the best mummy. She’s always so close to you. She cuddles you , she comfort-feeds you ; she reads, she surfs the net she experiments. ; she is ever so involved to give you all the best in life. Yes, truly, she’s god’s choice of a mother for you !

“Love is giving what you need to get “

“ All that I am or ever hope to be I owe to my angel mother” Abraham Lincoln

Jade, though you have reached the first milestone of your life, you have already got most of what you need to start life with and with many more to come. One thing for sure, you have the love, the care and support of family members as you from milestone to milestone. Remember too that the Almighty GOD will be showing the way and in times of trouble HE will lift you up and walk your way !
GOD BLESS YOU JADE
