Our New House in Al Muaaleh- 18th April 2007

Hi there Jade – Today I am writing to you from our new place , in Al Mulaleh, about fifteen minutes drive from Sultan Quaboos University Hospital. It’s known as YN building, a specially rented property of the University to cater for their expatriate staff, both working in the university as well as in the hospital. The one that we were housed before in the campus were the support flats for (single ) nurses. In here it has an assortment of staffs and nationality, as long as they opt not to stay out in their choice apartment. The building is of three storeys and houses about four apartments in each storey . Each floor is not very high ; only seven steps up a staircase.

Our apartment is on the third floor. We are very lucky to get this one. Although it’s a one-room apartment , it’s very spacious. As you enter ,you will come to a small square which can be used as a dining hall or otherwise. We convert this into a small lounge, We intend to get a table and chair set to use as a workplace for computing and sewing . As you walk straight on, there is the carpeted living room with sofas, air-conditioners, display cabinets , and coffee table for watching TV and entertaining guests. One good thing is it is a room by itself and can be converted into a guest room. This room has a door at the end other end which opens to a big and spacious balcony. This is where we have a good panoramic view of the surrounding area as we sit and yarn over a cup of tea. Here is where I’ll be tending to my potted plants, after a nice breakfast outdoor. It’s also an ideal for BBQ in winter. One good thing is, it’s part of our apartment and our very own.

Our bedroom is bathroom attached and is carpeted too. There is another wash room for guest just opposite the living room and before you enter the kitchen. The two washrooms are tiled with marble flooring and modern bath accessories .There is another toilet in the lounge. The kitchen is very spacious and looks very classy with modern stove , oven and exhaust fan, built in cabinets all round and windows that look out to the highway as you cook. We have our meals there too as it’s very spacious and convenient to have the meals served hot . The whole house is of marble flooring and the walls of bathrooms and kitchen are tiled.

It has all the luxuries and comfort that make it worth the while leaving home to work here , though I must say that there’s no substitute for home ; home with the warmth of loved ones.
